"Map of my Heart" print

In this unit, 2nd graders designed, carved, and printed designs to express their feelings for someone or something about whom they care. Students kept many of their prints as Artist Trading Cards, and gave some away to the people of their choice.

Experimental Expressive Lines

In this mini-lesson, students experimented with India ink and different types of tools to create marks. Then, we looked at ways that artists use lines to express feelings, and students used ink to express a feeling or emotion of their choice.

"A Place Where I Feel..."

We began this lesson with a visualization exercise in which students pictured themselves in a place in nature and noticed how they felt there. Then, they sketched, drew, inked, and painted their "place" to show others what it's like to be there.
